Hiding From Winter With Duck Comfit

A Visit to Palm Beach and Bistro Food

My parents live in Jupiter, Florida for most of the year. I, being a person of limited income and flexible schedule, visit them while they’re there. (Also my mom and I like to see each other every six weeks or so, otherwise we miss each other too much.) This winter especially, not having a day job, and moving further from my social hub, I wanted to get some sunshine. The Jersey winter has felt endless, it’s still gray now in mid April.

But a month ago I was in Florida, and it was warm, and beautiful and I hung out with my mom, which always makes me feel good. (Hi Mommy! Love you!)

Whenever I visit, we head to Palm Beach and do some exploring. I’m a little in love with the city, and have even used it as the inspiration for Brightcoast, Marina’s hometown in Tides of Love. (Available on Amazon here!) And whenever we go to dinner we wind up driving past French restaurant La Gouloue and say, “OH we should have gone there!”

So this time we did.

La Gouloue is a bistro, which is the kind of food I like best in probably the world? We had a lot of fun and tried some delicious food while we were there.

We started with a cheese souffle and house salad. The souffle was fluffy and eggy and light, and the salad was fresh and well dressed.

Soufle!

For our entrees, I got duck confit which was incredible. I appreciated that the sauce was served on the side which kept everything from feeling either over sauced or too dry.

Dad got the prime rib, which was carved tableside, and was perfectly cooked.

Mom got the sole meuniere, which I immediately regretted not also getting. It was beautiful and tasted so fresh.

For dessert we got creme brulee and profiteroles. The profiteroles we really loved, and the creme brulee was good, but not excellent.

All in all, we had a really great time, will be back and if I were to recommend one place to go to dinner in Palm Beach, it would be either here or Echo, which is an Asian Fusion restaurant.
